TERMS AND CONDITIONS
PELHAMS HORSEBOX HIRE
DRIVERS REQUIREMENTS
The hirer must be between 25 - 75 years old and must have held a UK Driving licence for at least 2 consecutive years and have no more than 6 penalty points.
The Horsebox may only be driven by the named hirer on the signed Hirer Proposal Form or Repeat Hire Slip.
All documents outlined in the Hire Proposal Form must be provided prior to the Horsebox being taken.
USE OF THE HORSEBOX
Our payload is 1100kgs. The hirer must comply with legal load and weight restrictions. The hirer is solely responsible for all fines, charges and lost revenue resulting from overloading.
The Horsebox must not be driven or taken outside of the UK.
Maximum mileage per day is 200 miles. Any additional mileage will be charged at 50p per mile thereafter.
The correct fuel must be used in the Horsebox. This is diesel. The hirer is liable for all repair costs if the incorrect type of fuel is used.
The Horsebox must be securely locked at all times when unattended. The hirer must keep the keys with them at all times. We cannot be responsible for any loss or damage to personal belongings left in the horsebox at any time.
The Horsebox must only be used to transport horses/ponies. It is a legal requirement that horses travel with their valid passport at all times. It is the hirers responsibility to ensure that horses travel with passports.
Horses must not be left unattended if tied to the outside of the horsebox.
Smoking is prohibited in the horsebox at all times. If evidence of smoking is detected, a £50 fee plus the costs of any damage caused, will be charged to the hirer.
The hirer must not sell, rent or dispose of the horsebox, its accessories or its contents or give anyone any legal rights over the horsebox.
The hirer must not let anyone work on or carry out repairs or modifications on the horsebox without our written permission.
The horsebox must be not be used for any illegal purpose or whilst under the influence of alcohol, any illegal substances and/oir prescription medication that prohibits the hirer from driving.
PAYMENT AND DAMAGE DEPOSIT
A 25% non-refundable deposit is due on booking.
A pending damage deposit of £200 is payable by credit or debit card in advance by the hirer. This amount will be not be taken from your bank, instead will be held in case of damage, late return, returned uncleaned or cancelled outside of guidelines. (Amounts charged are shown below)
Cancellation Fee:
More than 7 days notice = You will only lose your deposit.
Within a week = 50% of hire fee owed.
Within 48 hours = Full amount owed.
Fees:
- The horsebox must be returned with a full tank of diesel. Please fill until the pump clicks off. Any fuel shortage at return will be charged to the hirer at a rate of £30 plus the price at pump.
- Horsebox must be returned in a similar condition as collected which includes cleaning all horse mess and rubbish removed. A £25 cleaning fee will be applied if not adhered to.
- A no smoking in cab fee will be charged at £50, if we believe this has happened.
- Any late returns will be charged at £15 per hour.
The hirer is responsible for any minor or major damages caused to the vehicle by either their own or a third party’s horse/pony or any other animal including dogs that may be travelling. The hirer will be required to pay all repair costs.
The hirer is responsible for paying all fines and costs incurred for parking, traffic, congestion or other offences /tolls. The hirer must pay any fines and costs to the appropriate authority. Any fines incurred and not apparent until a later date, such as speeding fines, will be forwarded to the hirer.
COLLECTION AND RETURN
One vehicle may be parked at the pick up location for the duration of the hire. Vehicles are parked at owners risk and we accept no liability, responsibility or risk relating to the loss, theft, destruction or damage to the vehicle.
A Full Day hire is for 10 hours. Half Day Hire is for 5 hours. (times can be arranged). £15 an hour charge for late return.
The hirer acknowledges upon pickup that the horsebox, its accessories and its contents are free from defect and damage, fit for purpose, other than specified in the Condition Report. You are advised to check the horsebox thoroughly before departure.
Upon return of the horsebox, its condition will be thoroughly checked and the Return Condition report will be completed with the hirer.
INSURANCE
The horsebox is covered by comprehensive insurance for the duration of the hire period. Full details of the insurance are available on request.
The Hirer is responsible to pay The Insurance Policy excess of £500 of each and any claim made under the insurance.
We reserve the right to take action against the hirer to recover the full cost of loss or damage to the horsebox during the rental term which was not covered by insurance.
The following are excluded from the insurance cover:
Loss or damage due to wear and tear, failures, breakdowns or breakages of mechanical electrical or computer equipment.
Any accessories not permanently attached to the vehicle.
Loss or damage to the vehicle as a result of deception.
Loss or damage by theft or attempted theft if left unlocked or the keys left in the vehicle.
The insurance only covers the driver and two passengers. The horsebox must not be driven with any persons in the box area.
It is the responsibility of the hirer to ensure that insurance is in place for any horses travelling in the horsebox. We accept no liability, responsibility or risk relating to the loss, damage or injury to horses.
BREAKDOWN
The hirer must inform us as soon as they become aware of any fault with or breakdown of the horsebox.
We cannot be held liable for delays, Curtailments of journey or other incidental costs resulting from fault or breakdown.
The hirer will bear the costs of breakdown or repair in circumstances where the incident is the result of negligence on the part of the hirer.

ACCIDENT
If the hirer has been involved in an accident, They must not admit faulty to any party. The hirer should obtain the manes and addresses of all involved, including witnesses. Take photographs of damage to any vehicles at the scene, including registration numbers and location photographs as evidence where possible. Contact emergency services where necessary.
The hirer must inform us as soon as possible.
We cannot be held liable for any loss, damage or expense which occurs a sa result of an accident.
The hirer must complete an Accident Report Form (in horsebox) and send us a copy.
CANCELLATIONS AND RIGHTS TO REFUSE
We reserve the right to refuse to handover the horsebox to any person who, in the opinion of Pelhams Horsebox Hire, is not suitable to take control of the vehicle. In such cases, any payments made by the hirer will be refunded in full.
DATA PROTECTION
Any information given to us will only be used by us and will not be
shared with any third party, other than the credit/debit card company for the purpose of transacting
payment, the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA), debt collectors, emergency services
and/or governing bodies.
